New England Composers at Mt. Auburn Cemetery—a Curated Walk
June 8, 10:30am-12:30pm
Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Main Gate
580 Mount Auburn St., Cambridge, MA 02138
Join us for an unforgettable Walk With Spectrum as we explore the fascinating lives and music of three legendary composers at Mt. Auburn Cemetery: Arthur Foote (1853-1937), George Chadwick (1854-1931), and Daniel Pinkham (1923-2006). Immerse yourself in captivating stories and melodies amidst the serene beauty of nature.
The Walk begins with a general introduction, then we split into three groups and deploy to the three gravesites where we will hear about these composers’ lives and music. The three groups rotate from site to site—the total distance of the walk is about a mile and a half. After a short break we will congregate in a central spot to sing music by each of the composers. Printed scores will be provided and electronic copies distributed before the event.
Heinrich Christensen, organist and kapellmeister at King’s Chapel, Boston, is our speaker at the Daniel Pinkham gravesite. Heinrich began his long tenure at King’s with a 2-year assistantship under Pinkham. Our own Sara Glidden, alto and section leader with Spectrum, enlightens us on Chadwick, and Paul Dredge, tenor and Walk With Music committee chair, shares insights on Foote.
To Join the Walk:
This is a key fundraiser for our chorus. A minimum $25 donation per walker is requested, and larger donations are, of course, welcome. We are happy to have everyone join the walk in person, but we also welcome contributions from patrons who are unable to be there and wish to support Spectrum as “virtual walkers.” We especially encourage members of the Spectrum Singers to treat this as an opportunity to enroll their friends and families to support the walk. The top three walk/pledge recruiters among our singers will receive special recognition.
Sponsorship
Donors who give $500 or more will be recognized as Sponsors in the printed program for the Walk and on our website.
Weather and Logistics
Bring an umbrella. There will be no rain date. Details to follow about parking and logistics.

Become a Donor
We rely on public support to further our mission and concert activities. Your donation - of any amount - is greatly appreciated!
The purposes of The Spectrum Singers include bringing the gift of wonderful live music to our audiences, preserving and enhancing our cultural inheritance, and giving our chorus members opportunities to grow, and serve our audiences. We want to get better at each of these over time as we find ways to improve our performances and our venues, grow and renew our audience, learn and perform additional pieces, improve our talents, and attract a new generation of singers.
We have a long-term view that extends decades into the future. For years our average spending has been slightly less than our income; we aim to continue carefully to base our expenditures on our income.
Donations have averaged 53% of income. Ticket sales and dues from members are most of the rest. We are grateful to those who make our work possible. We like to acknowledge you. We celebrate your generosity. As you give, we can do more toward fulfilling our purposes.
All donors are recognized in our concert programs unless they wish to remain anonymous:
Director’s Circle $2,500 or more
Angel $1,000-$2,499
Guarantor $500-$999
Sustainer $300-$499
Benefactor $100-$299

If you prefer to donate by mail, please send your contribution to: The Spectrum Singers, P.O. Box 382325, Cambridge, MA 02238-2325. Please provide a return mailing address so that we may acknowledge your contribution.

Become a Volunteer
Be an Usher. We’re seeking ushering volunteers for our May 20 concert, Magnificent Mozart. Ushers work from 7-10 pm, may invite a companion to attend the concert with them, and can get a free parking voucher. Send an email to concertushers@gmail.com if you’re interested.
Join our Board of Directors. Our board is comprised of volunteers: members of our chorus and members of the greater Boston community. To continue growing and operating as a professional chorus, we depend on our volunteers, from Board positions to helping with mailings and administrative tasks to concert set-up and publicity.
Currently we are seeking two volunteers to fill new Board positions. Please reach out to us if you are interested in learning more.
“unfailingly dramatic performances that grappled with real issues in the music and real issues the music is about.”
